About the server

The Server

New Kingdom Server is an active, community driven Minecraft Server with custom server software and the goal of creating an open and friendly environment where people can play Minecraft the way they want to.

We run the Spigot API as our server software which means we can install and develop custom plugins that add extra features and functionality to the base game. The possibilities afforded by this API are almost endless and we already have a lot of non-standard features which you can read about across this site.

We have active coders in our team and encourage players to make suggestions about tweaks, improvements or additional features that we could make. If you feel something is missing or have an idea for an improvement, get in contact with an OP on the server, or send us a message. Likewise, we are always looking for help in developing our plugins and maintaining the website so if you are conversant in Java, HTML, PHP and/or MySQL and want to lend a hand, please get in touch!

Background

New Kingdom was born in 2015 when one of our OPs decided to start a new world to play with some friends one rainy October afternoon. The world was never meant to last for more than the afternoon but the chosen seed (obtained by using the initials of the players present on that day) produced an exciting and vibrant world. The players spawned-in a short distance from world centre (x:0, z:0) and spent the first MC night in the nearby villager town. This town quickly became the base of operations and was informally dubbed New Kingdom Capital. Within a few weeks the server had proved quite popular and was converted from LAN only to online mode so that more players could join. New Kingdom Capital became a thriving epicentre, with most players building a home there, numerous shops and communal stores opening and several joint projects being built. The capital continued to grow in size and was eventually re-dubbed New Kingdom City, a moniker it keeps to this day.

In the intervenening years we have continued to welcome new players and watched the world bloom with outposts and new towns being formed all over the map. In 2016 the first stones were laid in New Kingdom's second largest township, Ironforge, which boasts the largest railway station on the server and features a large dockland area that is being built by the community.

In 2019 and with significant works being carried out to prepare the server for update 1.13, a long-held ambition to merge one of our member's own servers (that many of our players used to frequent) into New Kingdom finally came to fruition. After several weeks of wrangling world data and hand smoothing rough edges, The Old World was merged into New Kingdom. This vast region lies in the far west of New Kingdom and features numerous epic structures built by many New Kingdom players in the days of update 1.6.4.

As of October 2019, considerable work has been undertaken to bring the server up to scratch for update 1.14, with several new plugins and systems added at this time. New Kingdom continues to be developed and we look forward to celebrating our five year anniversary in 2020.
