Player Guide

Server Fundamentals

The Guide

The New Kingdom Server features a host of additional functionality that expands the depth of the game and the experience for players. This page is your quick-reference to the various sub-systems of the server and will be updated whenever we incoporate new functionality or plugins.

The guide features command information for the various individual elements, but you'll also find a handy command reference at the very bottom of the page.

Economy

New Kingdom makes use of the EssentialsX economy plugin which adds an in-game currency that players can accrue and use to buy/sell items and features. Currency can be gained by selling items to the server/other players and sometimes as a reward for completing activities. Currency can be spent buying items from server shops/other players and on some in-game features and perks such as using homes and buying VIP Mode.

Commands

There are various player accessible commands available to help you in using the economy:

/balance, /bal View your personal cash balance
/balance top View a list of the wealthiest players on the server
/pay {player} {amount} Pay {amount} to {player}
/sell hand Sells all items in your inventory of the type currently held in hand
/sell {item} {amount} Sell {amount} of specified {item}
/worth Displays how much the item you are holding is worth
/prices View a list of all sellable items and their current value

Server Shops
Entrance to the Ziggurat

You can buy certain items and blocks from the server by visiting one of the Server Shops located throughout New Kingdom. Purchase items by right-clicking on the sign above the item you wish to purchase.

Item prices are occasionally adjusted to reflect the general supply and demand on the server, and to allow for game-play changes that alter how easy certain items are to obtain.

Server Shops tend to be in built-up areas and are all highlighted on the world map. Feel free to speak to an Op if you feel like something is missing from the Server Shops.

Many server shops also feature facilities to repair and enchant items.

Trade Signs/Player Shops

Players can set up their own shops/trade posts by using specially crafted signs. You may set up a trade sign for any item/price combination you wish by creating a sign and filling it in with the following format:

Selling Buying

Whether you're buying or selling, the format of the sign is the same.

Line 1: Must be '[trade]'.
Line 2: What you want from the trade.
Line 3: What you are selling/paying

Line 2 covers what you want out of the trade and can be either money or items. The syntax is either:

'£<amount>' or '<amount> <item>'

Line 3 covers what you are putting into the trade and can be either money or items. You must also specify how much money or how many items to put 'into' the sign. If selling items, you must have at least the specified amount in your inventory or you will not be able to create the sign. Syntax should be:

'<amount> <item>:<total>' or '£<amount>:<total>'

'Total' being the amount to place in the sign.

In both examples to the left we are attempting to exchange 10 pieces of dirt at a time for £5. In the selling case we put 100 pieces of dirt into the sign and in the buying example we put £100 into the sign.

If the syntax is correct your name will appear on line 4.

Right clicking the sign by the owner collects the items/cash stored in the sign.
Right clicking the sign by the owner with the item being sold, will restock the sign with more items.
Anybody else right clicking the sign will buy the items being sold, if they have the 'cost' on them.
<item> can be a shortname i.e. 'splhealpot'. Use the /itemdb command to look up item shortnames.

Communal Resources

New Kingdom is powered by a community driven approach. To this end there are numerous shared resources that you can make use of and contribute to:

Communal Stores
Communal Stores

As the saying goes, one person's junk is another's treasure. New Kingdom features Communal Stores which provide a place where players can share excess blocks/items. The philosophy goes that you place items in the stores when you generate surplus, and help yourself when you are in defecit.

For example, players often generate a large amount of stone/dirt whilst levelling a site for a new build. If placed in the communal stores, this excess material can be used by other players that require large amounts of ballast for some other project of their own.

There are three main types of Communal Stores in New Kingdom, though any store can contain any item type:

  • General Stores - Tend to be large, generally filled with standard blocks (stone, wood, dirt, glass etc.).
  • Mess Halls - More commonly used to store food, horticultural supplies and farming equipment.
  • Armouries - Tend to be stocked with weapons, armour and tools.

Of course, you are welcome to use trade signs to sell any surplus material instead, but we do find everyone benefits from the more common items being thrown into the Communal Stores areas.

Communal Stores are, of course, shown on the world map.

XP Farms
An XP Farm

When trying to enchant or repair a tool, weapon or armour piece, it can be handy to generate a large amount of XP faster than can normally be obtained. New Kingdom features numerous player-built XP Farms where this can be accomplished.

XP Farms are specially constructed areas that funnel all of the mobs coming from a mob spawner into a small area where you can easily slay them in large numbers and in relative safety.

Generally you will need to wait for a while for the mobs to accrue, and players often choose to go AFK for a while, stood next to an XP Farm. Bear in mind however, that the number of mobs that can accrue in one place is limited by Minecraft so you will need to periodically slay the waiting mobs before more will appear.

Most XP Farms are underground so their markers on the world map tend to point to the entrance to the tunnel or path that leads to the XP Farm, rather than the actual farm itself.

If you have found a mob spawner and built an effective XP Farm around it in an area that doesn't already have an XP Farm and you want it marked on the map, let us know!

Enchanting Tables
An Enchanting Table

Enchanting tables are most effective when surrounded by a particular quantity of bookcases.

Players finding themselves away from home will often need access to a maximum efficiency Enchanting Table without having to build one. To this end, there are numerous publicly useable Enchanting Tables throughout New Kingdom.

If you have built a max-efficiency Enchanting Table and would like to open it up for public use, let us know and we'll mark it on the world map.

Homes

Players have the ability to set special personal warp points known as 'homes'. Your first home is free to set; thereafter it costs £500 to set or reset a home. Using a home is always free. Each player is allowed to set up to three homes, if you need more than three you should consider purchasing VIP Mode which grants an extra two homes, allowing a maximum of five. You may freely use your homes to quickly jump from anywhere on the map back to one of your bases.

Commands

The user accessible home commands are:

/sethome {home-name} Set a new home or replace the home with {home-name}
/delhome {home-name} Deletes home with name {home-name}
/home {home-name} Warps the player to the home with name {home-name}
Transport

New Kingdom is a very large world and whilst this makes it very easy to find untouched regions to start a project in, it can make travelling between certain areas somewhat awkward. Aside from homes there are a few ways of moving between regions faster than can be achieved on foot:

Warp Stations
A Typical Warp Station

Most of the larger settlements feature a warp station from which you can quickly travel to any of the other warp stations. Warps are sign based; right click a warp sign to use it. Warps are generally free, though you may find a few warps to non-hub areas that have a per-use fee printed on the sign.

If a town grows beyond a certain size it will be considered for having a warp station built. If you have a special project that you think deserves a free or paid warp so that other players can get to it easily, get in touch with an Op or send us a message and we'll be happy to consider your proposal.

All warp stations and some individual warp points are displayed on the world map.

Rail/Ice Links
Ironforge Station

You may prefer to take a more scenic route to your destination, in which case there are a few options.

There is currently a rail link between New Kingdom City (access from NKC Warp Station) and Ironforge Grand Central Station (travel the entire route to get the 'on a rail' achievement). Most of the rest of the rail network is currently under construction but we hope to offer more destinations very soon.

There is also a high-speed ice train link between New Kingdom City and the Mesa, with plans to expand the route out to the Desert and Kevtobia soon. Access the ice train by taking a minecart on the Eastern Line from NKC Warp Station, don't forget to take a boat!

Wither Spawning
Total Destruction!
A Wither

The Wither is an extremely powerful and destructive mob in Minecraft. In order to protect the property of its players and the sanity of its operators, New Kingdom has a blanket ban on spawning Withers in the Overworld. We appreciate that the Wither drops a very valuable item and therefore a special world known as the Wither Zone is provided for spawning and battling Withers in a safe environment.

You can visit the Wither Zone via a special portal at the New Kingdom City Warp Station.

Before planning a trip to the Wither Zone you should be aware of the fact that it is ethereal. The entire landscape shifts and resets every 24 hours (at 5:00am) at which time you will be ejected back from whence you came. You are not advised, therefore, to leave anything valuable in the zone, or spend much effort on construction there.

The portal to the Wither Zone costs £100 per use. If you die in the Wither Zone and respawn in the Overworld you will have to pay another £100 to use the portal again.

VIP Mode

Players with a little spare cash may wish to purchase VIP Mode to gain certain in-game perks.

VIP Mode costs £500 and lasts for one month. You may purchase a single month at a time or initiate a subscription which will auto-renew monthly.

Perks
  • More Homes: VIPs can set two additional homes
  • Basic Insurance: Armour, Weapons, Tools and Experience are protected from ONE death per subscription period. The items will be automatically returned to you upon respawn. Note: Insurance applies to main worlds only and does not pay out for deaths in minigame worlds (Skyblock etc).
  • Bonus Experience: VIPs will receive a bonus 10% to any experience orbs picked up.
  • Your Name In Lights: VIPs are highlighted in gold in the tab list!
  • More perks coming soon!
Commands

The user accessible VIP Mode commands are:

/vip buy Manually purchase one month of VIP Mode
/vip autorenew {on/off} Turns the autorenewal subscription on or off
/vip status Displays information about your current subscription
Player Mail

New Kingdom features a basic mail system to enable players to leave messages for other players who are offline.

Commands

The player mail commands are:

/mail send {player} {message} Send this {message} to this {player}
/mail read Read your own received mail
/mail clear Clear all mail from your inbox
Rules

We try not to place restrictions on what players can and can't do on the server, however there are a few basic rules you are expected to abide by in order to maintain harmony throughout the world of New Kingdom. They are:

  1. Do not steal from other players.
  2. Do not steal from the communal stores in order to sell items to player signs/the server - the banker is watching!
  3. Do not build on other people's property. If you've chosen a new build site but are not building on it yet, mark the boundaries clearly.
  4. Use the /afk command if you go away from your keyboard.
  5. Repair any creeper damage you cause in public places. If you cause creeper damage to somebody else's property and don't know how to repair the damage, leave a message for the player!
  6. Report any violations of the above rules to Admin.

These rules are in place for your protection, punishment for transgretion will be swift and proportionate. Boundary disputes arising from rule 3 will be arbitrated by an Op, though generally ruling will be in favour of whomever claimed/built on the land first unless you have an extremely good case.

Signs
Command Signs

Scattered throughout New Kingdom you will find special signs that can be used to interact with the world and the server in several ways. These special signs can be used to execute certain commands, travel through warps and portals, and buy/sell items from the server and other players.

Interactive signs in New Kingdom generally start with a their type written on the top row in blue, like [this]. If there is a cost associated with using the sign it will be printed on one of the lower lines.

To interact with one of these signs, simply right-click it.

You may create your own trade signs that can be used in this fashion by other players. See the economy section of the player guide for details on how to create your own trade sign.
